Project Management – Information Technology (PMC)
About the Program
In this eight-month graduate certificate program, you will learn about the advances in project management taking place in the Information Technology (IT) industry. This program teaches an understanding of when to apply methodologies in the IT industry, including when each methodology is appropriate to use. This program will also refine your project management skills by providing an enhanced awareness of IT projects, programs and policies in two consecutive semesters. This program offers an optional work term for students to gain practical experience in the IT sector prior to graduation.
As a student in this program you may have the opportunity to participate in events such the annual hackathon.

Program and Course Delivery
This program is offered in Seneca's hybrid delivery format with some courses available in Seneca's flexible delivery format. Some coursework is online and some must be completed in person. Students will need to come on campus to complete in-person learning requirements. For courses offered in the flexible delivery format, professors use innovative learning spaces and technology to teach students in a classroom or lab and broadcast in real time to students attending remotely. In flexible courses, students have the choice of coming on campus or learning online.

Optional Work Term
Students meeting all academic requirements may have the opportunity to complete an optional work term(s) in a formal work environment. The work term(s) is similar in length to an academic semester and typically involves full-time work hours that may be paid or unpaid. In programs with limited work term opportunities, additional academic requirements and a passing grade on a communication assessment may be required for eligibility. Eligibility for participation does not guarantee a work position will be secured. Additional fees are required for those participating in the optional work term stream regardless of success in securing a work position.

Program Learning Outcomes
This Seneca program has been validated by the Credential Validation Service as an Ontario College Credential as required by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities.
As a graduate, you will be prepared to reliably demonstrate the ability to:
- Link projects with organization’s strategic plans, documenting the business needs and justifications for the project.
- Define and manage the overall scope of the project, documenting project goals, deliverables, constraints, performance criteria and resource requirements in consultation with project stakeholders.
- Implement the PMI project management knowledge areas, processes, lifecycle phases and the embodied concepts, tools and techniques in order to achieve success in Information Technology projects from project concept to closure.
- Plan and manage the scope, cost, timing, and quality of the project, at all times focusing on project success as defined by the project stakeholders.
- Implement project control procedures, resource management, change management, issue management, and risk management plans.
- Develop, implement, and analyze key financial information, translating financial information into project terms and establishing financial benchmarks.
- Identify, analyze, and refine project costs to produce a budget and control project costs.
- Determine quality requirements and implement quality assessment activities.
- Manage communications to ensure the timely and appropriate generation, collection, dissemination, storage and disposition of project information to aid in the achievement of project activities.
- Identify potential risk events, monitor and control risk events and assess risk management outcomes.
- Identify procurement requirements, establish procurements processes, and implement and evaluate contracts.
- Monitor a project’s progress, identify variances and take timely action to deal with problems and opportunities.
- Anticipate and respond to challenges inherent in large-scale, multi-national or virtual team projects.
- Apply appropriate legal and ethical standards.
- Interact with team and stakeholders in a professional manner, respecting differences, to ensure a collaborative project management environment.
- Apply the appropriate system development life cycle and methodology to new software development and IT administration projects as well as integrating legacy systems into current environments.
Admission Requirements
- Post-secondary diploma or degree or equivalent in software development or IT administration
- Applicants with a diploma in another discipline with a minimum of 2-years of full-time experience in IT administration detailed in a professional resume may be considered
- English proficiency for graduate certificates
Canadian citizens or permanent residents educated outside of Canada must provide a World Education Services (WES) or ICAS Canada credential evaluation.
International Student Information
